Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa – April 11, 2024 – In a heartening display of commitment to education and community support, Ndalamo Resources (“Ndalamo”) has stepped forward to fund Lungelo Mthembu, a bright and driven student, through his final year at Wits University. This marks a significant departure from Ndalamo's traditional approach of funding bursars solely through its various operations, showcasing the company's dedication to nurturing talent beyond its immediate sphere.
Lungelo Mthembu, aged 21, hailing from Kwa Mhlaba Uyalingana in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Province, is a shining example of resilience and academic excellence. Recently honoured as the Top Academic Achiever for 3rd Year students in Mining Engineering at Wits University during the recent South African Colliery Managers' Association (SACMA) Annual General Meeting, Lungelo's remarkable journey to success caught the attention of Ndalamo CEO, Shammy Luvhengo.
During the AGM, it was revealed that Lungelo faced financial constraints in covering his tuition and accommodation fees for his final year, despite his outstanding academic performance. Recognising the potential in Lungelo and the need to support his aspirations, Luvhengo personally intervened to offer funding through Ndalamo.
Expressing his gratitude, Lungelo shared his passion for engineering, citing his love for problem-solving and his consistent academic achievements since grade 5. He attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of his teachers from primary and high school, who recognised his potential early on and encouraged him to pursue his dreams.
“I am deeply grateful to Ndalamo CEO, Shammy Luvhengo, for believing in me and providing the support I need to complete my education,” said Lungelo. “My greatest motivation is to make my mother and siblings proud, and this bursary brings me one step closer to achieving that.”
In response, Luvhengo emphasized Ndalamo's commitment to fostering talent and making a positive impact on individuals and communities. “Lungelo's dedication and academic achievements are truly commendable,” said Luvhengo. “Supporting him through his final year is not just an investment in his future but also in the future of our nation. We are proud to play a role in shaping his success.”
Litshani Mofokeng, HR Executive Head at Ndalamo, echoed Luvhengo's sentiments, highlighting the company's dedication to empowering individuals and driving societal change. “We believe in investing in the potential of young talent like Lungelo,” said Mofokeng. “By supporting his education, we are not only fulfilling our corporate responsibilities, but also contributing to the socio-economic development of our country. We wish Lungelo every success in his future endeavours.”
As Lungelo embarks on the final leg of his academic journey, his story serves as an inspiring reminder of the transformative power of education and the invaluable impact of corporate support. Ndalamo's decision to fund Lungelo exemplifies their commitment to empowering promising individuals and building a brighter future for all.
